The attorney for the UNES presidential candidate, Andrés Arauz, filed a criminal complaint with the Colombian Attorney General’s Office, requesting to investigate the origin of “the false accusations against him for alleged irregular financing.”
After a second meeting between the authorities of the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office with those of Ecuador, the political alliance Unión por la Esperanza (UNES) warned of a possible interference attempt for the second electoral round.
They ask that the falsehood of the material on the supposed financing of the ELN to the Arauz campaign be determined. The investigation was published by the Semana Magazine and was replicated by national media. Now, the Prosecutor’s Office exchanges information about this alleged crime.
They ask to investigate those responsible who manipulated or produced the alleged evidence “of this absurd setup”, as they describe it. Also, they ask to clarify if there was interference from the Public Force of the brother country.
They consider that three presumed criminal offenses would be configured:
1. Material falsification in a private document, this due to the use of a manipulated video to start a process.
2. Abuse of authority by arbitrary and unjust act.
3. Procedural fraud, due to the opening of previous investigations in Colombia with evidence that does not correspond to reality.
The UNES alliance announced that they will carry out a series of international actions to clarify the facts.
