“I want to ask all of you not to lose hope. Do not let hate affect us.”

The Prefect of Pichincha, Paola Pabon wrote a letter from the prison in Latacunga, in which she claimed that she was not allowed to be present at the hearing. In addition, she asked not to lose hope after knowing that the appeal for her preventive detention was denied.

“I was not even allowed to attend the hearing yesterday. I was at the entrance to Quito and they decided to return to the prison in Latacunga. Do I no longer have the right to attend my hearings?”

Five hours later, the Provincial Court rejected the appeal submitted by Pabon, Virgilio Hernandez, and Christian Gonzalez. With this, her preventive detention was ratified during the investigation for alleged rebellion offense.

“I wonder, how far the oppressors’ act can go? Is not the pain of our parents, our brothers, and our children enough?” reads the letter.

Pabon’s lawyer, Ramiro Aguilar criticized the resolution and said that the only way left for “political prisoners is the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).”

“I want to ask all of you not to lose hope. Do not let hate affect us. Our motivation is love. The love for justice. Love to those who need it most. The love for our Pichincha and our Ecuador,” Pabon concluded.
