Petroecuador authorities confirmed that drilling is part of the 2021 planning.
This Monday, March 8, the public company Petroecuador announced that it will drill 8 new oil wells in one of the blocks in the province of Orellana. The country seeks to maintain a daily production of 60.000 barrels.
Gonzalo Maldonado, manager of Petroecuador, visited the Tambococha area, which belongs to Block 43-ITT, where the new wells will be opened. This drilling is within the planning for 2021, according to the official.
“We are defining some parameters related to the budget to continue with the drilling campaign in 2021 and later with that of 2022. In the case of Ishpingo, the drilling of 72 wells is contemplated, 36 on each platform,” confirmed Maldonado.
For 2022 the construction of two drilling towers working in the Ishpingo is analyzed. Currently, block 43-ITT produces 59.471 barrels of oil per day, of which 36.597 correspond to the Tambococha area and 22.874 to the Tiputini area.
The ITT (Ishipingo, Tiputini, Tambococha) is the largest oil development project in the country and is located in one of the most biodiverse areas of the Amazon basin. The former president, Rafael Correa, led a campaign to keep oil underground; however, he was unsuccessful due to lack of donors.
