Parents demand shortage of childhood vaccines against polio and pneumococcus

Citizens visit different health centers and make long lines looking for vaccines that protect the health of their children.

The Ministry of Public Health had reported the previous week that the pentavalent vaccine was already available in all health centers in the country; however, several parents complain about the shortage of vaccines that prevent polio and pneumococcus.

Parents visit some health centers looking for doses of the pentavalent vaccine, which protects against diseases such as: hepatitis B, influenza type B, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. This drug is already being administered to infants in the country.

On the other hand, citizens claim that they cannot find other drugs necessary to prevent the health of the infant, such as those vaccines for polio and pneumococcus. This shortage is not global, since some health clinics do report this drug in their pharmacies.

Pediatricians and experts recommend vaccinating children as soon as possible after birth, since this prevents their exposure to diseases and also protects those who cannot be vaccinated, due to having a catastrophic disease.

The health and national authorities have not given any official response to these claims and neither do they make public the status of the child vaccination system in the country.
