1.962 Ecuadorians will receive the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19

The mother of the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, will have to be immunized this Saturday, February 13, 2021.

This Thursday, February 11, 2021, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) will begin the administration of the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 in those citizens who are part of the first phase of immunization in Ecuador.

Doctors from Quito and Guayaquil who received the first dose of this drug will also start this second part of the vaccination. The immunized groups are health personnel who were on the front line during the health emergency, older adults who are in geriatric centers and those who care for them and people with disabilities.

On the other hand, on Saturday, February 13, 2021, the mother of the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, and 17 other people will receive the second dose of the vaccine in a private residence for the care of the elderly, the drug will be distributed between 9 residents and 9 workers.

Unlike the mother of the minister who already knows the date when their dose will arrive, some doctors have commented that they do not know if they will receive the second injection, because they have not confirmed the day or time to be immunized, only they received a message telling them to be ready for the “possibility” of being injected with the first vaccine booster.

Juan Carlos Zevallos will also receive the second dose of this vaccine, the minister affirmed that he was immunized in honor of the doctors who became ill and battled against the pandemic, according to the official, who before the vaccine arrives accused the doctors of being those responsible for bringing the virus to hospitals.

In Ecuador, the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine is being used for this first phase, according to its developers, with the first dose a protection of 52% is reached and with the second, which is received at 21 days, a protection can be reached 95%.

The MSP announced 1.962 people will receive the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines and with this the use of the 8.190 vaccines will be completed, awaiting a second shipment that would arrive next week.
