With 16 qualified presidential pairs, without Álvaro Noboa, the National Electoral Council (CNE) will order the Military Geographical Institute (IGM) to print the ballots for the elections of February 7, 2021. This was confirmed this Monday, December 4, the vice president of the electoral body, Enrique Pita.
With this action, the Council definitively closes the door to the nomination of businessman Álvaro Noboa, who was sponsored by the Social Justice movement.
In an interview on a television channel, Pita said that if it was not yesterday, it will be today due to the haste to meet the deadlines of the electoral calendar.
The counselor stated that the printing of the ballots can be ordered once the certification of the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) has been obtained that there are no pending legal remedies.
He stressed that the time for the printing of the ballots is not different from that of other elections, but maintained that it took longer due to the conflict over the Social Justice candidacies.
According to Pita, the last sentence of the ECT judge, Joaquín Viteri, states that the CNE has not incurred in breaches of the sentence that was originally issued.
He explained that at no time has the work of the CNE been oriented to favor or harm any specific candidacy.
