The Argentine had been detained since November 2019 when he was accused by the government of Jeanine Áñez of participating in an alleged homicide, in the protests for the departure of Evo Morales.
This Friday, December 4, it was learned that the Montero Sentencing Court in the city of La Paz, Bolivia, issued a provisional release order for the former Argentine guerrilla fighter and photojournalist, Facundo Morales Schoenfeld.
The Argentine citizen had been imprisoned since November 11, 2019 and the entire government of Jeanine Áñéz passed with preventive detention. The photojournalist was accused of being an accomplice in a murder allegedly committed by the MAS during the conflicts over the departure of Evo Morales.
The judicial authorities sent the order to the governor of the Chonchocoro prison, for him to comply with the order and issue the provisional release of Facundo Morales.
Marco Antonio Justiniano, Morales’ lawyer, commented that the courts leaned in favor of the Argentine after verifying all the irregularities in the process against him. In addition, the defense stated that the 150-day preventive detention had already ended, because the accused has been detained for twice that time.
Another factor that influenced the judges’ decision is the health status of Facundo Morales, who suffers from kidney failure and the risk that this represents in the face of a Covid-19 infection. He is currently admitted to a hospital where he receives all the necessary care.
For its part, the Argentine government confirmed that the photojournalist and former FARC can travel to his country, as long as he appears periodically at the Bolivian Consulate.
