Provinces of the Amazon report an increase in Covid19 cases

Pastaza and Morona Santiago report 27 and 17 cases per 1.000 inhabitants respectively, while the national average rate is 12 infections per 1.000 people.

The Amazon is also suffering the consequences of the global Covid-19 pandemic. However, several hospitals in some provinces do not report the maximum capacity, but this is mainly due to the fact that not many tests are taken and when the results are taken they take time to arrive.

The most affected provinces are Pastaza and Morona Santiago, with 21 and 17 cases per 1.000 inhabitants, respectively. Meanwhile, the national figure reaches 12 infections per 1.000 people.

The Macas hospital reported until this Thursday, December 10, 2020, two of its four ICU beds enabled and 8 hospitalization beds occupied. Hence, in this nursing home the coverage of other pathologies was increased.

In Morona Santiago, 73 tests are taken for every 1.000 inhabitants, while in Pastaza, 47 samples are collected for every 1.000 people. However, this second province has to deal with the damming of diagnoses, which take up to 8 days to reach hospitals.

For their part, local authorities expect an increase in cases in the following days and also call on people to maintain biosecurity measures and avoid any type of crowding.
