Ecuador reports 788 new infections and 17 more deaths in the last 24 hours. This Thursday, December 17, 2020, the country reports a total of 204.249 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 13.932 deaths due to the pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Health, 9.386 people died with a positive diagnosis. To this figure are added 4.546 deaths that were probably caused by the respiratory virus.
At the national level, there are 449 stable hospitalized patients and 352 with a reserved prognosis. In total, there are 851 interned in one day. While 55 more people were discharged from hospital.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has registered 177.951 recovered patients, which represents 88.05% of the total infected. The indicator is updated every Sunday and in the last week, from December 7 to 13, 3.763 people were added who overcame the disease.
Pichincha has 281 new infections and two more deaths in the last 24 hours. The province, the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, registers 72.957 diagnosed and 2.290 deaths. Quito adds 265 new infected and the total number of cases in the Ecuadorian capital rises to 67.226.
The Ministry of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, announced the start of vaccination from January next year. In phase zero, it will be the health professionals from the sentinel hospitals who will receive the doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine. By March, the government hopes to start mass vaccination.
