Puerto Rico receives first shipment of Covid-19 vaccine

Puerto Rico received today the first shipment of vaccines against Covid-19, which will begin to be applied tomorrow to health personnel at the Ashford Hospital, in the capital sector of the County.

The chief of the Puerto Rico National Guard, Brigadier General José J. Reyes, declared that the vaccines received, some 16,000 doses from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, are aimed at the medical personnel of 65 hospitals in the country.

“We will begin the first phase of vaccination tomorrow, after being distributed to the 65 hospitals in Puerto Rico,” said Deputy Minister of Health, Iris Cardona, in a radio interview on the WKAQ-580AM network.

Salud expects the delivery this week of just over 30,000 doses, followed by a second order of vaccines.

The doses of the vaccines from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer were brought to this Caribbean island of 3.2 million inhabitants on a Fedex company flight from Memphis, United States.

Puerto Rico reported a daily average of 10.2 deaths from the virus in November and so far in December.

Since last March, at the moment, accumulated deaths have reached a thousand 282, while infections exceed 110 thousand 420 cases between confirmed and probable.
