The Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, spoke about the country’s health crisis and assured that, in Ecuador, one in three people has already been infected with coronavirus. The percentage, according to the calculations of this entity, would range from 22 to 44% of infections in various cities of the country.
Zevallos said that in Ecuador the contagion of Covid-19 is community-based and, according to his estimates, one in three people has already been infected with this virus.
In the same way, the minister assured that mass vaccination will begin in Ecuador in March, since until that date agreements will be concluded with several pharmaceutical companies around the world and steps will be taken to store and transport the medicine.
In this sense, he reiterated that the first vaccines to be distributed will be from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna, but he also announced that there have been conversations with Sinovac, Johnson & Johnson and Covaxx so that their vaccines are also distributed in Ecuador, but its development is not yet complete.
On the other hand, Zevallos indicated that Ecuador invested about USD 20 million in advances for 18 million doses of vaccine.
