Peru Prosecutor’s Office investigates Merino for the death of protesters

In Peru, the forced disappearance, serious and minor injuries and the murder of two protesters are being investigated.

The Peruvian prosecutor, Zoraida Ávalos Rivera, said on Monday that the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Human Rights opened a preliminary investigation against the former president, Manuel Merino de Lama; the former Prime Minister, Ántero Flores-Aráoz and the former Minister of the Interior, Gastón Rodríguez Limo for the offense of two protesters.

In this sense, the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Merino, Florez-Aráoz and Limo for the alleged crimes of abuse of authority and intentional homicide against the youths Jordan Inti Sotelo Camargo and Jack Brian Pintado Sánchez.

Likewise, the judicial entity carries out investigations for serious and minor injuries and forced disappearance of people who have ruled in rejection of Martín Vizcarra’s motion for vacancy and against Manuel Merino’s six-day mandate.

“My office has arranged to initiate a preliminary investigation against Manuel Merino de Lama, Ántero Flórez Aráoz and Gastón Rodríguez Limo for the alleged crimes of abuse of authority, intentional homicide against Jordan Inti Sotelo Camargo and Jack Bryan Pintado Sánchez as well as serious injuries, injuries laws and forced disappearance to the detriment of persons to be determined, “said the prosecutor in a video posted on the Public Ministry’s Twitter account.

Likewise, Ávalos Rivera affirmed that “these deaths will not go unpunished”, for which he ordered the competent authorities to expedite the evidentiary procedures to request the imputation of charges against those involved in the crimes of violation of human rights.
