The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, indicated that they are in a process of gradual and progressive reopening at the border points, under strict biosafety protocols.
In a presidential meeting between Ecuador and Colombia, where the presidents, Lenín Moreno and Iván Duque participated, they spoke about a progressive reopening of the Rumichaca border, which links both countries and which, at the moment, is closed, due to the pandemic of the coronavirus.
In the session that took place virtually, this Thursday, November 26, the presidents addressed issues of connectivity, production, border security, as well as medical assistance in this border area.
Moreno pointed out that one of the challenges is to turn the border area into a strengthened pole of economic and social development and added that “that does not exclude that we continue working on other issues.”
Regarding a possible reopening of the Rumichaca border crossing, the Ecuadorian president indicated that depending on the health situation that the country is going through in the coming months, the border could reopen in the first months of 2021.
For his part, President Iván Duque said that they are in a process of gradual and progressive reopening at the border points, thinking about the well-being of the peoples, considering biosafety protocols as a central element, to avoid crowds.
