Ministry of Finance will be responsible if Ecuador’s elections fail in 2021, said a member of the CNE

He indicated that the financial situation of the National Electoral Council of Ecuador is worrying.

The counselor of the National Electoral Council (CNE) José Cabrera warned that, if the electoral process of February 7, 2021 fails, it will be the fault of the Ministry of Finance.

Cabrera commented that he requested a meeting with the different technical areas of the CNE, to know in detail in what area the reductions could be made, in accordance with the ceiling raised by the Ministry of Finance.

He warned that the CNE has the competence to set the budget for the elections, for which he raised the need for all the councilors to meet to review the items and define if they reach the 83 million that Finance will deliver.

Cabrera indicated that, if this budget does not reach, they will blame the majority councilors; as usual.

He condemned that Finance has not disbursed the resources, despite being three months away from the electoral process, in which the new president of the Republic will be elected.

«The situation is worrying. If there is any complication due to the lack of allocation of resources, it will be the responsibility of Finance, “he insisted.

Cabrera described the financial situation of the CNE as worrying, because without money, how are we going to carry out the 2021 electoral process? He questioned.

The electoral adviser announced that the OAS, UNIORE and other international organizations have confirmed their presence, with observation missions, for the 2021 elections. “We are even executing the project to support the electoral cycle with the UNDP to strengthen the process.” he said.
