Venezuela begins the third phase of clinical trials of the Russian vaccine, Sputnik-V

The South American country is also waiting for the arrival of thousands of Chinese vaccines, according to the authorities.

Venezuela is ready to begin the third phase of clinical trials of the Russian vaccine against Covid-19, Sputnik-V, as reported by the president of the republic, Nicolás Maduro.

The South American country chose 2.000 volunteers for this third phase of trials, in addition, Venezuela is also waiting for the entry of Chinese vaccines to also carry out studies. Regarding this situation, President Maduro opined that:

“The Russian vaccine is already in Venezuela, tests with 2.000 volunteers are already beginning and several thousand vaccines are coming from China,” said the president.

Maduro also commented that according to the results and compliance with the protocols of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), “mass vaccination” will proceed in Venezuela during the first half of 2021.

The authorities reported that the priority to receive the vaccine will be health workers, the elderly, teachers and also those people who register a disease or are part of vulnerable groups.

Those who want to volunteer in the trials of the Russian vaccine must meet some requirements of the Ministry of Health of Venezuela such as: be over 18 years old, not have respiratory diseases, not have bad consumption habits and not have any tattoos on the arm for the reactions that contact with the drug can generate.

Clinical trials in Venezuela of the Russian vaccine will last 180 days. The agreements with Russia will allow the South American country to acquire the Sputnik-V vaccine, after complying with security protocols such as technology transfer.
