CNE denies registration of the presidential binomial of the “Libertad es Pueblo” movement

The electoral body qualified the presidential binomial of SUMA), as well as the lists of Andean parliamentarians of the PSP, CREO and Popular Unity.

News Point.- By denying the registration, the Plenary of the National Electoral Council (CNE) left out of the electoral contest the presidential duo made up of Juan Carlos Machuca and Cristóbal Luna, from the Libertad es Pueblo movement, led by Gary Moreno Garcés, brother of President Lenín Moreno.

The argument of the CNE is that the political organization replaced the candidacies of President and Vice President, in breach of the provisions of subsection 5 of Article 345 of the Code of Democracy; 11.1 of the Internal Democracy Regulation and its own organic statute.

The regulations determine that replacements are produced solely by resignation, death, serious and permanent physical, mental or legal disability or verified by the Central Electoral Body of the movement or political party. Although the political movement could appeal the resolution to the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE).

On the night of Friday, October 16, the electoral body also approved the qualification of the presidential binomial of the More Action Society Unit Party (SUMA), as well as it gave way to the lists of Andean parliamentarians of the Patriotic Society Party (PSP), of the Creando Oportunidades movements (CREO) and Unidad Popular.

In her Twitter account, the president of the CNE, Diana Atamaint, clarified that the entity’s decision was given to review the corresponding technical legal report.
