The president repeated the speech he gave two years ago in the General Assembly itself.
Users of social networks revealed that the president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, repeated parts of a previous speech when intervening in the high-level debate of the 75th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).
It was the speech that Piñera gave to the same organization in 2018. This Tuesday, the Chilean president faithfully repeated complete sentences of that oratory, such as “collaborative and multilateral solutions will allow us to overcome this crisis.”
“The transitional government, free and democratic elections in Venezuela”, “the representation of Africa and Latin America before the Security Council of the organization”, or the “values that should illuminate our path”, were other recycled segments.
In his speech on Tuesday, Piñera focused on reducing the humanitarian crisis in the country in the face of public opinion as a result of the protests at the end of last year. Likewise, he made an effort to divert attention to the supposed problems of Venezuela, and to present himself as a supporter of the fight against climate change.
However, he did not speak about issues such as the violence exerted by the police of his country against the mobilized people.
He also did not refer to the high rates of spread and mortality that Chile presents in the face of Covid-19, nor to the refusal of his Government to sign the Escazú Agreement, regarding access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters in Latin America and the Caribbean.
