“Only in social security there are more than 400 thousand disengaged,” criticized Mesías Tatamuez.
The president of the Unitary Front of Workers (FUT), Mesías Tatamuez, announced that on September 16 they will carry out a national mobilization for the increase in unemployment and to defend health and education.
Through a virtual press conference, the union leaders criticized the handling of the pandemic by the Government of President Lenín Moreno.
They are concerned that layoffs in the private and public sectors continue and there is no response from the State to safeguard the work of Ecuadorians.
“Unemployment has already reached 700 thousand, others say that there are a million unemployed,” said Tatamuez, who criticized that there is no real figure for the labor situation in the country.
“Only in social security there are more than 400 thousand disenrolled. The representative of the Executive says: no, there are only 300 thousand. Unemployment has bordered what never happened in history. The government offered 500 thousand jobs and it has been a million unemployed ”, he lamented.
They criticized that the Government, with the “misnamed Humanitarian Law”, made work in the country even more precarious and, in their opinion, benefited only businessmen.
Several unions of workers announced their support for the mobilization on September 16. Isabel Vargas, leader of the National Union of Educators (UNE), also announced her support for this call to demand payment from teachers who, despite the pandemic, continue to teach, without receiving their salaries
