An increase in social protests in Haiti against the Government of Jovenel Moise, provoked a reinforcement order by the authorities of the Dominican Republic on the border between both nations.
Demonstrations in Haiti have been on the rise in recent days, protesting the increasingly frequent violent incidents in the slums of Port-au-Prince and the unsolved murder of the head of the Bar, Monferrier Dorval.
Similarly, the country’s police union joined the protests to demand the release of officer Jean Pascal Alexandre, arrested last May on charges of murder, arson, destruction of public property and violation of state security, accusations that the guild denies.
Human Rights Organizations have warned that the action of armed gangs in vulnerable neighborhoods in the Haitian capital has intensified in recent weeks, with attacks on various areas, burning of houses and rapes of women and girls.
Faced with this situation, the Dominican President, Luis Abinader, instructed the Minister of Defense, Major General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, to reinforce the entire border strip, in order to protect that area.
