New scandal would involve a government minister, who would be behind illegal wiretapping of opponents and journalists, suspects legislator Roberto Gómez

The assembly member indicates some data, such as the equipment and platforms that would be used for this operation.

Roberto Gómez Alcívar, an assemblyman for Guayas, is determined to investigate the complaints of wiretapping and hacking of equipment, without a court order, that the National Government would carry out, against not only opposition politicians, but also communicators who are critical of the speech official.

The legislator believes that behind these illegal actions would be the Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, who he says is in charge of “these things”, political agreements and even the distribution of hospitals.

Among the clues that Gómez provides are the names of the teams, services or platforms, such as G12 Impact, Verint Web intelligence and Trapdoor Platform, which would be used to carry out the wiretaps.

People like Alfredo Larrañaga, Gabriel Guidalevich and Mauricio Bechan would be the contacts with the equipment supplier companies.

In addition, the assemblyman indicates names, such as that of Police Captain Gabriel Ramos, who would presumably be in command of these illegal operations, since October 2019, and some police officers would have traveled to Israel and Cyprus, in 2019, in order to receive training on these procedures.

With all these data, the legislator Roberto Gómez sent Minister Romo two letters in which he requires, in a formal way, that she report if she is an official, the Ministry of Government, the National Police or any agency that is in her charge or with the one that coordinates directly or through an intermediary person, they are currently using the aforementioned equipment and the purpose and use they are giving them.

He also requested that Romo indicate whether he knows Larrañaga, Guidalevich and Bechan and the activities assigned to capital Ramos, the agency in which he operates and the tasks assigned. Also, the names of the policemen who traveled to Israel and Cyprus.

The parliamentarian warns that, if his requirements were not met by the Minister of Government, he will proceed to present a request for impeachment against her.

Gómez pointed out that, if it is discovered that these actions are carried out beyond official activities and without a court order, it would be an absolute illegality, which has to be prosecuted criminally, by the Judicial Branch, and politically as well.

He announced that he will send copies of the requests for information made to Minister Romo to the Prosecutor’s Office, because he considers it important that she knows them.
