A dialogue table that seeks to solve the conflict in the town of K’ara Kára, in the Bolivian Department of Cochabamba, was installed this Monday.

The Ombudsman’s Office has been promoting the dialogues since this Sunday, but they were unable to advance due to the lack of conditions, according to local press reports.

The defender of the people, Nadia Cruz, the defender of the region, Nelson Cox, the deputy minister of the Interior Regime of the Ministry of Government, Jaiver Issa and the governor of the Department of Cochabamba, Esther Soria, participate in the negotiation.

In the dialogues, there are also the mayor of K’ara Kára, José María Leyes, the director of the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters), Yercín Mamani and neighborhood leaders and representatives of the protesters, called “self-convened”.

The protesters call for the resignation of the mayor Leyes, the release of several detainees, whose arrest the “self-summoned” consider illegal, compliance with the subsidy for light, access to drinking water and the cessation of the rigid quarantine.

These demands were not met by the de facto government, which repressed the protests by sending security forces to the area, also using riot control and aircraft.
