The Ecuadorian Chamber of Electronic Commerce predicts that this year’s sales will reach USD 2.2 billion.
In the context of the health emergency, the demand for products through electronic commerce channels registered a growth never seen before in the country. This was announced by Leonardo Ottati, director of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Electronic Commerce.
During 2019, e-commerce recorded sales of USD 1.6 billion, but in the quarantine due to the health emergency, between March and May 2020, they moved around USD 500 million.
According to the union, it is expected to close the year with sales of USD 2.2 billion and for this purpose, an event is organized for July 2 that seeks to equip the businesses and enterprises that want to respond to this growing demand from the population with tools. This is the eCommerce Day Ecuador Online Live Experience.
Ottati stated that this initiative will focus on empowering businesses and companies that want to enter commerce ‘online’ or that seek to improve their way of working on the digital channel.
He indicated that the health emergency exceeded the response capacity even of companies that already had experience in this area.
“I see with great fear that out of necessity and desperation, many businesses launch into e-commerce inexperienced and without knowing if what they are doing is really profitable. For example, we see that businesses offer free shipping, but is it profitable to do so? That needs to be analyzed, “he said.
