The detainee is José Ángel Casarrubias Salgado, one of the leaders of the Guerreros Unidos criminal organization.
The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) arrested José Ángel Casarrubias Salgado, known as ‘el Mochomo’, for allegedly being involved in the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa.
Local media reported that the alleged member of the Guerreros Unidos cartel, implicated in the kidnapping and disappearance of the 43 normalista students from Ayotzinapa in September 2014, was arrested at the Federal Center for Social Readaptation (Cefereso) of ‘El Altiplano’, in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.
Casarrubias Salgado was arrested last Wednesday, June 24 in Metepec, State of Mexico, in a coordinated operation between the FGR and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), as reported by La Jornada.
After being arrested in the prison of ‘El Altiplano’, ‘El Mochomo’ will give his statement on Tuesday.
‘El Mochomo’ is the brother of Sidronio Casarrubias, identified as the leader of Guerreros Unidos at the time of the kidnapping and disappearance of the normalistas in Iguala, in the state of Guerrero.
On October 6, 2015, the defunct Attorney General’s Office (PGR) offered a reward of 1.5 million pesos (about $ 65,000 at today’s exchange rate) for anyone who offered information leading to the capture of José Ángel Casarrubias.
