Since the project was created in 2012, more than 16,000 inhabitants of the Urcuquí canton in the province of Imbabura have benefited.
Workers and former workers of the company protested in rejection of Executive Decree 1060 that provides for the extinction of this public company and therefore dismissals.
The protest was made during the visit of the Minister of Health Juan Carlos Zevallos.

According to Kiwar Salazar, leader of the Defense Front of the Yachay EP City of Knowledge Project, of the 436 employees of the company, 20 were separated from their work in May.
Zevallos visited the Yachay Tech laboratory, where PCR tests would be performed, for the confirmation of Covid-19 cases to people from the northern provinces of the country: Carchi, Esmeraldas, Imbabura and Sucumbíos.
