A heavy rain that lasted until the morning of this Friday, May 15 caused the overflow of the Cayapas River, in the north of the province of Esmeraldas.
The inhabitants of the Afro and Chachis communities lost not only their animals, but also the potato and cocoa crops due to the current.
The residents asked for the intervention of the Risk Management Service to evaluate the damage and help families.
So far there are no victims, but they are affected by the losses of their crops, because water has entered the communities of: Zapallo Grande, Telembí, El Tigre, Cooperativa Cafetal, Pichiyacu-Chachi, among others.
Santiago de la Cruz, president of the Federation of Chachis Centers of Esmeraldas, asked the mayor of the canton Eloy Alfaro, David Rosero, to attend to the populations urgently since the river increased its flow.
