Authorities issue protocol to restore activities at restaurants

Personnel must comply with hygiene regulations before and during their working day.

The General Protocol on Biosecurity Measures for Food and Beverage Establishments: Restaurants and Cafeterias prepared by the authorities to deal with the coronavirus is ready.

The 21-page document was released this Friday, May 8, and was created by the Ministry of Public Health, the Agency for Health Regulation, Control and Surveillance (Arcsa); and the Galapagos Regulation and Control Agency. Private entities also participated.

The Ministry of Tourism reported that the opening and opening hours of this type of establishment will be subject to the provisions issued by the authorities and the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE), for the duration of the health emergency.

The manual includes recommendations for the personnel who work in these premises and guidelines that they must follow before arriving at their positions to work and during their working hours within each premises.

Employees are encouraged to maintain daily hygiene, clean clothes, short nails, go with hair up, do not wear jewelry, or clothing with long sleeves. They must wear the mask before leaving home. They must also have a personal use alcohol gel dispenser (for each worker), as well as maintain a minimum distance of 2 meters and do not touch their faces.

In addition, the employer must constantly assess the health status of its employees or provide basic information on prevention measures.

In relation to the cleaning of public service spaces, the use of washable tablecloths and crockery or glassware is determined, which does not necessarily have to be disposable, but should be washed using disposable gloves with warm water.
