Government registers nearly 40 million impacts of fakenews

He called on citizens to inform themselves through official means and not to share messages or audios on social networks where the person does not identify himself.

The Secretary of Communication of the Presidency, Gabriel Arroba, who is infected with coronavirus, reported that until March 23, 2020, nearly 40 million impacts of false news that were generated on social networks were reported.

He explained that this false information circulating in networks seeks to generate chaos in the public in the midst of this health emergency caused by COVID-19.

He said that, in apparently political groups, they create fake audios that say “I have a friend of the friend who said there will be a food supply.” This information, he said, is completely false.

They are currently investigating who is behind what is also known as Fake News. “There are hidden interests behind and work is being done to find them. There will be strong legal penalties, “he said.

According to intelligence reports, 50% of false news is being generated from Mexico, 30% in Ecuador and the remaining 20% is from various countries, such as Venezuela. “Do not fall for this game and, rather, if this information reaches you, do not share it. Fake news can cause a lot of damage, “he said.

“Apparently there would be a whole organized system to try to generate chaos in Ecuador,” the secretary of state warned, mentioning that he made direct contact with Facebook and Google to make free communication from their platforms and combat the Fake News.

He suggested to the public to verify: “If the message wants to alarm, the first thing you have to do is enter the official channels of the Government to verify the information, and also contrast with the media that is usually consumed.”

Arroba referred to his health, after they confirmed that he is positive for COVID-19 and said that he is asymptomatic, so he can continue working from home and complying with the protocol.

“There are many people like me who are asymptomatic and could go out to the store, to walk or elsewhere and they can infect. Therefore, do not leave your houses and follow all the recommendations, “said the official.
