Catalina Andramuño resigned from the Ministry of Health

The former Minister of Health, Catalina Andramuño, makes important revelations in her resignation letter. She says she resigned from the ministry because she received no budget help to deal with the health emergency and the coronavirus.

He also stated that the imposition of officials who have no knowledge of public health is unacceptable.

Since July 03, 2019, Catalina Andramunio assumed as Minister of Public Health of Ecuador, after nine months of work she presents her irrevocable resignation to the position of Minister of Health.

The communication says: «However, during the Covid 19 crisis, the technical and medical postulates to confront it did not find an echo in many instances of the Government. With this background, I am also unacceptable the imposition of officials who have no knowledge of public health and the reality of this situation, “she says in the statement.

In addition, the former minister stated that «The health ministry has been preparing since December 2019 for this crisis. However, facing a health emergency without resources is complicated, I attach the official letter No. MSP-CGAF-2020-0193-M of today March 21, 2020 signed by Ing. Miguel Guevara, General Administrative Financial Coordinator of the Ministry of Health Public, where it says that until now no budget allocation has been received from the competent authority for the management of the emergency.

The new Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of the Americas, has been appointed new Minister of Health by President Lenín Moreno.

The new authority will have to face the most serious Health crisis of the last century: the coronavirus pandemic. He is a graduate of the School of Medicine of the Central University of Ecuador and, later, of the University of Padua, Italy, where he received his degree as a cardiologist.

He earned a postdoctoral degree in Preventive Cardiology from the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine and received field epidemiology training from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States.

He was awarded by the United States Department of Justice as “Alien with Extraordinary Abilities.” The five years prior to joining as dean of UDLA, he served as a professor at the Florida International University (FIU).
