The Chinese Army’s Eastern Theater Command reported on Monday that its troops are on high alert and will follow orders to “confront the enemy,” in a context of growing tensions with the United States over Taiwan.
In a publication on the WeChat social network, the military corps pointed out that the forces “will bury all the invaders” and “will march to victory” while carrying out joint operations.
The text accompanies a video with live fire exercises and the deployment of missiles, fighters and a large number of very sophisticated weapons.
The eastern theater command led the recent patrols and exercises around Taiwan.
Apart from its publication, the People’s Liberation Army began a round of exercises in the Yellow Sea on Monday that will last 14 days and will take place simultaneously from Tuesday to Saturday in the South China Sea.
All these operations involve a ban on navigation and follow others that started over the weekend in the South China Sea and off the coast of Taiwan, amid friction with the United States over the possible visit to Taipei by the president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that China is still attentive to the legislator’s itinerary, after reiterating its rejection of her eventual stopover on the island, considering it an act of interference, a violation of bilateral pacts and a threat to peace and stability on the island and in the region.
