The United States considers Ecuador an unattractive country for foreign investment

The US Department of State issued a statement on the investment climate in Ecuador. In this report, he pointed out that there are three factors that harm the country’s reputation at the international level: legal insecurity, corruption, and the political crisis.

Legal insecurity is one of the obstacles to attract capital to the country, since the legal complexity due to an inconsistent interpretation of laws and regulations increases the risks and costs of doing business in Ecuador.

Corruption is another point that drives away foreign private investment. “The companies that participate in the processes lack commitment, accountability and transparency,” said the US State Department. While it was indicated that the political crisis prevents the progress of reforms in the National Assembly and there is an environment of social uncertainty.

However, the United States government recognizes that the Guillermo Lasso administration is seeking to boost investment. Thus, the goal of the president is to obtain USD 30 billion in investment, until the year 2025.
