The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) will analyze on August 30 a request from opposition parliamentarians on the suspension of the possession of weapons in the October elections in Brazil, it was learned.
According to CNN Brazil, the security of the lawsuit is one of the priorities of Minister Alexandre de Moraes at the head of the electoral court.
The court will deal with the request presented by opposition legislators at the beginning of July, in which they demand that on October 2 and 30 (dates of the first and second round, respectively) the circulation of people carrying weapons be prohibited.
Such hearing will be held after De Moraes met with the 23 commanders of the Military Police to discuss, among other points, the carrying of military artifacts on voting days.
According to the TV station, the meeting was the first in the history of the TSE with high-ranking police officers.
CNN specifies that, in a consultation, the TSE cannot create norms, it only has regulatory power, which means that the response of the court must be in the sense of saying how the laws in force are applied.
On October 2, the first round of the referendum will take place, when 156 million 454 thousand 11 Brazilians will go to the polls to elect the President of the Republic, governors, senators, federal, state and district deputies.
To date, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva leads all opinion polls for the referendum in which Bolsonaro will seek reelection.
