Bolivia reports first rubella case after 15-year elimination

Bolivia on Thursday reported first case of Rubella virus at the Trinidad municipality, Beni Department, after eliminating such a disease for over 15 years, Health Minister Jeyson Auza said.

“In light of this, we have sent a team of specialists in charge of conducting an active epidemiological surveillance. We´re rolling out some pressing measures,” Auza tweeted, while urging Bolivian people to get vaccinated to be protected from these diseases, he pointed out.

According to a report from Health Ministry, last case of rubella in Bolivia was reported in 2006, following its surveillance was integrated with measles in 1998 and the SRP (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine was introduced in 2000 to the regular immunization schedule.
