US Justice to receive info about Jan.6 Capitol insurrection

The House of Representatives´ select committee to investigate the January 6 Capitol assault will share information with the Department of Justice (DoJ), Rep. Bennie Thompson, Committee Chairman, reported on Thursday.

Thompson specified DoJ will now be able to get copies of witnesses´ statements to the House´s select committee in charge of investigating the January 6, 2021, riot, as well as the role of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) in the insurrection, the newspaper The Hill reported.

One of the big questions following the panel’s eight public hearings is whether it will lead to a criminal investigation against trump.

Although the parliamentary group cannot bring legal charges against Trump, its main mission has been to uncover full extent of the tycoon’s attempt to stop Biden´s election victory on the day thousands of his supporters stormed the Capitol.

DoJ has so far charged more than 800 people deeply involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, riots, but it is unclear whether it will bring charges against a former president based on the House select committee´s findings.
