CDEDA condemns Palestinian inmates´ situation in Israeli prisons

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs (CDEDA) on Tuesday once again condemned treatment given by the Israeli authorities to a group of sick Palestinians imprisoned in Israel.

The CDEDA expressed in a statement its deep concern about the increased number of cases, especially those suffering from cancer and tumors, while stating that the Israeli prison officers systematically conduct acts of physical and psychological violence against Palestinian prisoners. As an example, the CDEDA cited the case of Shadi Gwadra, 34, who had three tumors detected in his lungs.

However, the CDEDA warned officials refuse to expand the scope of tests to determine the kind of tumors and also to transfer Gwadra to a hospital.

The CDEDA condemned last week the inhumane treatment of sick Palestinians in such facilities and also warned this policy is a real threat to their lives.

Israel´s prison authorities brush aside our compatriots´ ailments and do not provide medical treatment, the CDEDA stressed.

According to the Palestinian Center for Prisoner Studies, out of 700 detainees with health problems in Israeli prisons, about 160 suffer from chronic diseases such as cancer, kidney and heart failures, muscle atrophy, clogged arteries, and diabetes.
