Russia does not threaten the world with nuclear weapons; Zajarova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described as inadmissible the attempts to present Russia as a nation that threatens the world with nuclear weapons.

“The attempts to distort with propaganda purposes the logic of deterrence on which Russia’s official comments on nuclear issues are based, and to present us as a nation that threatens with nuclear weapons, are absolutely inadmissible,” the diplomat said, according to Sputnik.

The spokeswoman for the Eurasian nation’s foreign ministry denounced that the United States and its allies provoked an escalation of the crisis in Ukraine and initiated a hybrid confrontation with Russia, and now pretend to blame Moscow for threatening nuclear weapons.

“By provoking an escalation of the Ukrainian crisis and triggering a fierce hybrid confrontation with Russia, Washington and its allies come dangerously close to the brink of an open military confrontation with our country and, therefore, of a direct armed conflict of nuclear powers. Obviously, such a confrontation would lead to nuclear escalation,” said Zakharova.

On the other hand, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also described as inconceivable Japan’s attempts to present her country as a nuclear threat.

In this regard, she added it is disconcerting the tone and approach of the unfriendly remarks of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who alleged that “the use and threat of nuclear weapons by Russia has become a reality”.

In the face of such allegations, Zakharova stressed that the Western powers and their allies only seek to justify their own extremist actions, putting Moscow’s special military operation in Ukraine as a backdrop.
