Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reaffirmed that, if he wins the October elections, his immediate priority will be to improve the living conditions of the Brazilian people, who are poorer.
The former labor leader said that he feels “sad because 12 years after leaving the presidency, I believe that Brazil is poorer”, in an interview granted to the British newspaper Financial Times, quoted by the official website of the Workers’ Party (PT).
According to Lula, now in the South American giant he finds “more unemployment, more people going hungry and Brazil with a government with very low credibility inside and outside the country”.
Asked if he can slay the demons of hunger and poverty, he answered that he can and if he succeeds in doing so “he will go to heaven”. Lula also assured that he will bring his country back to the global stage as a great environmentally responsible and socially conscious power, and highlighted the priority for the Amazon.
In the interview, the PT presidential pre-candidate also pointed out that after four years in office, the ultra-right-leaning president Jair Bolsonaro has become a pariah of humanity.
