ALBA-TCP questions US interests at the Summit of the Americas

The executive secretary of ALBA-TCP, Sacha Llorenti, today questioned the hegemonic interests of the United States regarding the 9th Summit of the Americas, scheduled for June in the North American city of Los Angeles.

Through his account on the social network Twitter, the head of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty, denounced that the organization of the regional meeting responds to the “whims” of Washington.

“It is the Summit of the Americas, or is it the Summit of the whims of the United States of America,” Llorenti joked on the communication platform.

The statements by the executive secretary of ALBA-TCP are related to the complaint made this week by the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, about the claims of the US government to exclude the island from the continental meeting.

In statements to the press, the head of Cuban diplomacy stated that the United States exerts extreme pressure on many countries in the region that favor the participation of the Caribbean nation in the event.

The Cuban authorities consider their participation in the aforementioned summit could contribute to frankly discuss topical issues, such as those related to the confrontation with Covid-19 and the existing migration situation in the region.
