A 6.8 magnitude quake shakes Nicaragua’s west coast

A 6.8 magnitude quake on the Richter scale shook in Pacific off Nicaragua early Thursday.

According to official sources, the telluric event was located at 70 kilometers off the coast of Pochomil, had a depth of 10 kilometers and it was felt in Managua, the capital.

“We are monitoring to see where the earthquake was felt and if there was any consequence, any mishap. For the time being, that is the information we have. We have no news about aftershocks,” Nicaragua’s Vice President Rosario Murillo said in a phone conversation with state media.

The vice president urged the population to listen to the information, to stay in safe places and to clear the entries and exits of premises, as the major thing is to take care of everyone’s life.
