Chile confirms loss of contact with its journalist in Ukraine

The Chilean Foreign Ministry confirmed today that it does not know whereabouts in Ukraine of the Chilean-American writer and journalist Gonzalo Lira, who disappeared in the midst of the war in that country.

Relatives of the novelist and communicator, whose last location was the city of Kharkiv, lost contact with him on April 15, says a note from that portfolio published Tuesday by the local newspaper La Tercera.

The Foreign Ministry, which receives reports from its Consulate in Moscow, “keeps in contact with the relevant entities regarding any news about the location of the compatriot,” adds the official communication.

Another reference to the missing journalist was a MoatsTv program in which he would interview on Sunday driver George Galloway and “it was not possible to contact him”, while some reports speculate about a kidnapping or murder.

“May God save the life of Gonzalo Lira, whom we have not heard from since Friday, since we agreed to have this conversation on this show,” lamented the presenter of the television space.
