Belarus president, Alexandr Lukashenko, today instructed the country’s authorities to buy medicines from India and Cuba, if the United States does not sell them.
In a meeting with the Attorney General and the president of the State Security Committee, the president directed the diversification of drug supplies so as not to allow their shortage in the national market, the Belta news agency reported.
“It cannot be justified that someone does not sell something, when it is needed. Drugs and medical supplies are not under strict sanctions,” he stressed.
“If the Americans don’t sell you the medicine, buy them in India, in Cuba. The issue is knowing how to move. Therefore, justifications that we need medicines or something else are not accepted,” Lukashenko stressed.
Belarus is subject to innumerable economic sanctions by the United States and the West, causing restrictions on various products and merchandise.
On more than one occasion, the Belarussian president highlighted the development of Cuba’s health system and its achievements in biotechnology allowed him to develop an indigenous confrontation plan against Colvid-19.
Last year, at the closing of the Sixth Popular Assembly, broadcast throughout the country, Lukashenko referred to the progress made by the island in the production of vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
