Government of Ecuador will invest around USD 2 million to reinforce maximum security prison

General Pablo Ramírez, director of the Comprehensive Care Service for Persons Deprived of Liberty (SNAI), reported that transfers of persons deprived of liberty (PPL) are constant.

“The previous year we had 2,000 transfers to prevent violent deaths in some cases,” said Ramírez.

Ramírez explained that the transfer is done with an intelligence report and these procedures are always motivated by the directors of the detention centers.

These are judicialized through a report with which the judges of penitentiary guarantees are communicated within 24 hours.

With this strategy, 83 violent deaths have been prevented within the prison system. While, only on April 3, 20 inmates were murdered in the Turi Social Rehabilitation Center, in Cuenca.

In the last riot, a transfer of five PPL to the Rock was carried out, who would be the presumed responsible for the last massacre in Turi. The general clarified that they were not taken with other leaders of the criminal organizations.

As a measure to reinforce security in the Guayas Social Rehabilitation Center #3 or called La Roca, there is a security device with police and military.

In addition, the Government will invest nearly two million dollars in infrastructure, equipment and technology, which is being incorporated.
