Russia’s Kursk region on high alert after Ukrainian attack

Roman Starovoit, governor of Russia’s Kursk region, on Friday reported that all the security services of that territory are on high alert after the attack by the Ukrainian forces on Belgorod.

The Executive explained on messaging app Telegram that the governor contacted his Belgorod region counterpart Vyacheslav Gladkov, following the air raid by two Ukrainian helicopters against oil depots in Belgorod in early Friday.

Starovoit explained that the Kursk administration, also close to the Ukrainian border, offered help and fuel to that territory.

Gladkov also wrote on Telegram that the helicopters entered the Russian territory flying at low altitude and the incident did not cause casualties. He noted that the fire affected fuel tanks and has a high level of complexity.

Belgorod Mayor Anton Ivanov assured that the residents of the houses on three streets near the depot were evacuated.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, after the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic requested help to repel the increase in aggression from Kiev and the heavy air strikes.
