Six prisoners die after riots in CRS Turi

The resistance of several inmates to being transferred to another prison would have caused the disturbances.

The director of the Turi Social Rehabilitation Center, in Cuenca, María Belén Cabrera, together with the National Police, investigate the death of six persons deprived of freedom of the minimum, medium and maximum security pavilions, after a mutiny in this prison.

The dawn of this Thursday, February 20, 2020, riots were recorded in the prison center of Turi. Several groups of special operations of the National Police came to the place to control the situation.

National Service of Integral Attention to Persons Deprived of Liberty (SNAI) confirmed that they are 6 dead persons.

According to preliminary information, the mutiny would have been given by the transfer of some inmates, who resisted being changed from penitentiary.

Local media report that the relatives of the detainees were able to perceive from the outside the smell of gas and screams from the pavilions. They desperately demand to know what happened.
