Protests in Ukraine for the arrival of 72 people evacuated from Whuan – China

Hundreds of residents of the Ukrainian region of Poltava protested for the arrival of a plane with 72 passengers evacuated from Whuan, China, by the coronavirus. Five of them are Ecuadorians.

On Thursday morning, one hundred people congregated to prevent the quarantine zone in their town for fear that the disease would spread in the area. People placed barriers and burned tires.

The Ukrainian press reported clashes between police and citizens.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said protesters “do not express the best of our personality” and tried to assure people that quarantine does not mean any danger to the residents of the village of Novi Sanzhary.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Zelenskiy said that evacuated people from China are healthy and will stay in a closed medical center, run by the National Guard, which “in the next two weeks will probably be the most guarded facility in the country” .

In the early hours of Thursday, a plane with 45 Ukrainians and 27 people from various countries including Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Dominican Republic and Israel departed from Wuhan, the epicenter of an outbreak that has infected more than 75,000 people in the world and caused more than 2,100 deaths.

The plane stopped in Kazakhstan to leave two Kazakh passengers. Then he tried to land in Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, but could not due to bad weather.

He flew to Kiev to load fuel and finally arrived in Kharkiv. (C.D.A.)
