More than 30 000 troops of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) develop from today in Norway military maneuvers as part of the Cold Response 2022 exercise.
In declarations to TV2 television channel, General Yngve Odlo described the deployment as defensive, but it is part of a context marked by the military operation undertaken by Russia in Ukraine for about two weeks.
The maneuvers here are intended to test Norway’s capacity to receive reinforcements from abroad in case of aggression, in accordance with Article 5 of the Atlantic Alliance, added the head of the military exercise.
A few days ago, Denmark and the United Kingdom announced the signing of an agreement on closer defense cooperation, including joint exercises in the Baltic under the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
Both countries are NATO members and the agreement was signed despite Moscow’s reiteration that its objective in Ukraine is to ensure the stability of the Donbass territories.
The JEF is led by the United Kingdom and also includes Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and this nation.
