The Government of Ecuador announced that it will respect the decision of the National Assembly to grant amnesties to 268 persecuted politicians, social activists and rights defenders.
The Government Minister, Diego Ordóñez, mentioned that if the objective of the Assembly, as the president of this Function, Guadalupe Llori, said, was to give a message of peace, Ordóñez believes that all those affected should have been included.
“They only included those who were on the street and not the police, public officials who were protecting order,” he added.
“The Assembly must respond and assume its responsibility for the decision it has made. The government has nothing left to respect. Show solidarity with the Armed Forces, the National Police and the citizens, especially from Quito,” Ordoñez said.
There were 268 amnesties approved by the Assembly, with 99 votes. 60 of them were for the case of those prosecuted for exercising their right to resistance and social protest in October 2019.
The Government maintains its position of supporting the actions of the public force during the days of the national strike, in which there were murders, thousands of injuries and people who lost their eyes.
