Palestine condemns Israel’s new expansionist plan in Jerusalem

The Palestinian Government on Sunday condemned Israel’s plan to build 730 new homes in East Jerusalem, and pointed out that it is a new blow to a negotiated solution to the conflict and a violation of international law.

The announcement confirms that Tel Aviv insists on ignoring the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions on the illegality of settlements on the occupied territories, Abu Rudeineh, the spokesman of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, stressed.

This unilateral measure will lead the region to greater tension, the official affirmed.

Israeli authorities approved building that number of homes in the Israeli settlement of Pisgat Ze’ev, in East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians claim as the capital of their future State.

Rudeineh accused the neighboring nation of taking advantage of the international community’s attention on the conflict in Ukraine “to promote settlement projects and steal more Palestinian land.”
