Russian forces destroy 2,786 Ukrainian military targets

The Russian Armed Forces have destroyed 2,786 Ukrainian military targets since February 24, when hostilities began between the two countries, the Ministry of Defense informed on Wednesday.

The Army’s spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said that the Army has eliminated more than 90 percent of Ukraine’s long- and medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems, including 137 S-300, Buk-M1 and S-125 systems.

For his part, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, stressed that the situation on the contact line in Donbass is still difficult, but it is under control, while in the territories under the control of the DPR there is relatively calm.

Pushilin explained that in the territories liberated from Kiev’s control, work is underway to restore the humanitarian situation, in particular, to ensure the proper functioning of power, communications, healthcare response and food supplies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a speech to report on the start of the operation, stated that the goal is to protect the population of Donbass from Kiev’s abuses and genocide over the past eight years and to “demilitarize” Ukraine.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the attacks are not directed at either the Ukrainian population or cities, but at the country’s military targets and infrastructure.
