Russia cautions about response on military assistance to Ukraine

Russia has notified several countries that they would shoulder responsibility for any initiative of military assistance to Ukraine, if they send weapons and volunteers to that nation, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned on Wednesday.

“The countries involved in supplying weapons or sending so-called volunteers for any experimental schemes in this field would be held accountable,” the Russian diplomat told Sputnik Radio.

She assured that both Russian diplomats and embassies clearly conveyed Moscow’s position to the potentially involved countries.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, after the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) requested help to repel the aggression from Kiev.

Earlier, Moscow recognized the independence and sovereignty of both territories and signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the heads of the DPR and LPR, including establishing diplomatic relations and providing military aid.
