Ecuador was appointed to chair the World Dialogue of Environmental Leaders at the international meeting ‘Stockholm +50’, which will be held in June.
The event commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first environmental conference in the history of the United Nations and seeks to accelerate compliance with environmental commitments in the context of action and results in favor of sustainable development, including recovery after the Covid pandemic. -19.
Consistent with Ecuador’s international leadership on environmental issues, the country was chosen, through the Environment Minister, Gustavo Manrique, who will co-chair the Dialogue under the theme “Reflection on the urgent need to act to achieve a healthy planet and the everyone’s prosperity.”
“Ecuador agrees to co-chair the dialogue with the intention of accelerating the commitments in favor of the transformation of the planet. These challenges are global and we must face them with a joint response towards a sustainable future” said Manrique.
The minister indicated that he will convene several workshops at the national level “to bring the voice of members of civil society, the private sector, workers, NGOs and the public sector, and promote a shared global vision of a healthy planet and prosperity for all.”
The meeting will take place in Stockholm – Sweden, on June 02 and 03, within the framework of World Environment Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly.
